Racks that use shoe box size containers.

ragnew Jun 05, 2003 01:00 AM

Hey, I was just wondering if any of you have had good luck with keeping your gex in the shoe box size containers? I know that many people use the shoe boxes for the babes/juvs but would any of you use them for the Adults geckos? I was gonna buy one of the Boaphile Plastic rack units that comes with the 30 shoe boxes for housing... Should I do this? Or would it be advised against? Right now I keep all my geckos in the large Reptile Ranches that are put out by Lees Pet Supplies. I use the mini UTH (both t-rex and zoo-med) for the heat source. Let me know if this sounds like a good idea.

Thanks Again
Richie

I use Boaphile shoebox racks for hatchlings up to 15/20 grams then they are transfered to the blanket racks that will hold 5/6 females (that are the same sizes) in each container. I think that shoeboxes are way to small for adults.

I have a rack that i use for raising my geckos tha a friend of mine built. The boxes are really small in it and it hold 12 rows of 3 boxes each. i didn't like keeping full grown geckos in the small ones (especially since some of my geckos weigh 100-120 grams) so i took out some of the top rows and made found bigger tupperware to fit. It works out great i can now house 12 adults and about 18 juvi-hatchlings(36) i keep clutchmates together when hatchlings. Racks really are great and they are easy to build. I would recommend building one and buying heating element to run down the back from www.beanfarm.com (it might be thebearnfarm.com). they have great prices and great products. Good luck.

the ponly time i use shoe boxes for adult geckos is if they are injured, ill or sometimes when quarenteening them. if you want to house them individually you need to go up a size to either the sweater box or shirt box size, which equals about the size of a 12 qt sterilte or so
