Robyn, Your comment on bulbs larger than 90 watts.

In those 10' enclosures how can you possibly maintain proper temps with 45-90 watt bulbs? Do you keep the ambiant temp in the room very high? I have my adults in a 7' by 4' cage, I use two 160 watt mercury vapor and two 90 watt halogen floods to keep the temps at about 100 degrees on one side and about 85 degrees on the other side. The ambiant temp downstairs is about 70 degrees. What are you doing that I am missing?

for larger cages, we use 2 or 3 bulbs together. you don't need higher wattages, but rather a wider, broader basking area, so traingulating three 45 watt halogens (or perhaps two 45's and one 90) gives you a nice broad basking area, still with great basking temps, and without some dumb 250 watt bulb

you can see pics of this setup with our large monitor cages, in the monitor and facility photo albums at our site.
