Iguana Gardens

Hey Everyone!

Well, the time is once again approaching (slowly, but it's coming!) where my family begins planning the garden. It's -43ºC here tonight...so I'm really hoping summer comes SOON!

Last year I planted a section for Myka, it included greens, several types of squashes(which I've stored and am still feeding her), as well as a number of vegetables. But...this year Myka's section will be bigger, AND better.

In my "greens" section, I plan on including as many of the following as possible:

Collards
Turnip greens
Dandelion greens
Mustard greens
Watercress
Alfalfa
Endive
Escarole
Flat leaf parsley

I will plant the squashes I planted last year: acorn, butternut, buttercup, and a kabocha hybrid.

The section for vegetables will hopefully have all of these, and possibly a few others:

Okra
Sweet Potato
Bell peppers (red, orange, and yellow)
Beans (purple, green, and yellow)
Yucca root/cassava
Snap/snow peas
Green onions

I will also be planting nasturtiums, hibiscus, and dalhias if at all possible.

So, after ALL that, now onto my question

I have NO idea where to get most of these seeds. The "normal" vegetables can be ordered from a seed store that supplies here, but that only covers about 1/3 of what needs to be ordered. Can anyone recommend a good, online store where I can order all sorts of crazy vegetables, like the ones listed above?

I plan on starting most of these plants inside to ensure a higher rate of success, and I think it should turn out wonderfully!

Any help is appreciated, as always!

Wendy

I'm in Eastern Canada, so replies from Maritimers or other Canadians who have a Canadian site in mind would be great!!

Thanks again!

Hi there,
I'm Canadian too, but I'm from Western Canada (BC). I get my mustard, escarole, endive, collard etc. seeds from a store called "Dig This". They carry a great selection of seeds from Gardensnorth (www.gardensnorth.com/site).
I also came across this website that is in the US but will ship to Canada, you could maybe contact them and get more info. It seems they have a good selection of seeds but I have never ordered from them - http://www.gardenguides.com/seedcatalog/vegetables/vegetables.htm
Also, if you ask a local greenhouse or nursery, they have copies of seed catalogs and could help you find a place to purchase the ones you are looking for. Good luck.
Cheers,
Kally

I was just looking on the one site and saw these turnip greens; they do not grow a turnip root, but instead put all their energy into producing Calcium rich greens. These would be good for me to grow since I always waste the turnip when I cut off the greens for Joey (I hate turnips!).
