I have a newbie question

draybar Jan 08, 2004 07:37 PM

I decided to breed a few of my snakes this season.
I have a pair brumating (creams)and a pair that I was going to breed without brumating (a ghost and a snow).
Well, my snow has been acting restless the past week and refused a meal this weekend. The only time she has ever refused a meal was in the "blue". She shed two weeks ago so I know that wasn't the problem.
I have been watching her for a couple of days and started to wonder if she may be looking for a mate.
So, I decided to put my ghost in with her and see what happens.
It took all of about five minutes for them to hook up.
This brings me to my question.
Do any of you see any problem with them mating this early in the season?
Any possible problems I should watch out for or should I just get ready for an early season.
thanks
The prospective parents

That's how it went for me last year with my snow and okeetee. She (snow) was all into it and pretty much showed him what to do! it was funny because he was a bit smaller than her. But they did well, I got 13 babies out of it

This year I don't have the Okeetee, and my anery is pretty small compared to my snow, so I doubt we'll be having babies this year. But I do let them hang out together occassionally, just to see how they like each other. So far they've spent a couple of evenings together and she gets all jerky like the males are supposed to do, he just isn't in the mood yet. Neither seems to be bothered by the other being there though, so if not this year, then next year, I'm sure they'll get around to it

Get the baby stuff ready Here comes the big "Sit and Wait"! LOL

That's going to be the hardest part...WAITING.
I still plan on keeping my brumating pair in the 'fridge until the first of Feb. but I guess with my tramp Snow I will get everything ready a little earlier then expected.
It was suggested that I might want to put them together a couple more times just to make sure, so I guess I will do that.
Oh well it should be interesting to say the least.

My pair were both first timers last year, and they only mated once that I saw, but I did let them "date" several times after that. I used a Hovabator for the eggs, worked like a charm! But you got a couple months to get that stuff set up

Then a couple more months of waiting.....My babies took 5 days for all 13 to hatch, so even once they pip there's more waiting! lol
