hi there, i m new to this forum and i hope to hear some advices from u guyz.

i bought my juv albino leo gecko (about 3.5" 4 weeks ago. for the first 3 day when i brought him home, he consumed 1 cricket per day. however, after that he is stop eating for 2 days. and after 2 days, i was away for a trip for 2 weeks so my aunt was taking care of him. unfortunately he seems like not eating at all when i was not around.

now i m monitor him about a week, he still not taking any food at all. his tail is very very skinny which i dun think there is fat reserved. that's really make me feel worry. so i wonder how i can save this little fellow coz i really dun wanna loss him.

for more details, the setup is quite simple, a 1 ft tank, a coconut-shell as a shelter, water and some calcium powder.

What bedding or substrate is your gecko on? What are your temps? do you have a humid hide?

Have you tried mealworms or wax worms. It sounds like he wasn't eating very well to begin with- most juvies will consume more than one cricket per day- by the way what size crickets are you feeding? Make sure that one side of the tank is cooler than the other so the gecko can regulate it's temperatures. And did you say you had a humid hide?

the cricket is about one inch or less. i did try to feed mealworm but he has no interest to eat at all.

as for the humid hide, i m not sure inside the coconut-shell consider humid for him.

and this is what i noticed from the past few days:
1. he like to open his mouth (more frequent from my other leos)
2. he still [bleep] although he didnt take any foods.

If he is opening his mouth regularly while not eating he may have a breathing disorder or mouth rot. You should examine his mouth a little closer. If there is any puss, or mucus like saliva I would definitely take him to a herp vet ASAP! If his tail is really thin, he also might be dehydrated. You should try giving him a warm soak in a bowl or tupperware with luke warm water and soak him for about 5-10minutes. Also I would try giving him at least 2-3cc's of pediolyte or gatorade each day to get him up and going again.

forget to mentioned this, i m from Asia hot country so the avg temp is about 28 - 32 C and thank you for ur fast response, i m really appreciate. thnx

What part of Asia are you from?

It sounds like the crickets are too big for him. He's only 3.5" long? If he's opening his mouth, he might be trying to push the food down. You should try to feed him smaller crickets about 3/4 the size of his head. Feed him more crickest, too. He should be able to eat like 10 a day.

Safest thing is just paper towels, although i have mine on cali-sand, and i'd rather not get into this discussion because its just emense controversy.
