Help Panther

stevie16 Jan 08, 2004 09:51 PM

My Sambava panther chameleon is just over one foot in lenghth about 12 1/2 inches I was just wondering if any body had any idea how old a panther about this size would be. Another issue all the sambava panthers I see are usually bright orange and green. Mine is most of the time an overall shade of brown with some pattern. I don't think that its stress because he acts normally and is a good eater. Basking temps are perfect and He gets outside in the warm southern california sun almost everday.
Any thoughts as to why he's such a drab color. positive its a male huge bulge at the base of the tail and he colors up at night nicely as well.

Stevie,

It sounds like your panther should be over 1 yr old at the size you are stating (tail was included?).

In our experience, a panther will stay drab colors when he is unsatisfied with his general living conditions. This could mean one or several of the following: the lighting, the temperatures, his view; the cage size; the plant cover inside his domain.

If you could provide details of his environment, perhaps we could make suggestions.
