Eating vermiculite

ghostwolf Jan 08, 2004 11:11 PM

Does anyone else have geckos that eat vermiculite?! I have a couple of first time breeders who I recently supplied with a nest box of damp vermiculite. Two days later, gold poop! Lol! I'm not sure what to do about this and I am baffled that they are dining on it in the first place! Crazy animals...

I also have a couple of girls who eat vermiculite. I use bed-beast or eco-earth in my moist hides now.

Have you had any luck with that? Thanks for the suggestion!

If they're eating the vermiculite, you should try switching to another medium like peat moss. I don't use vermiculite because of the warning on the bag.

So far (last 4 years or so), it's worked great for me. One other lay medium to avoid is the bright green moss packaged by Fluker. I think that it's dyed. I've had problems with all sorts of lizards (not just leos) eating it.
