So, I just got my 1st kingsnake (a pyro). He/she is sooooo beautiful....but is it a she or a he? I want to name it in the next few weeks after I get a feel of his/her personality, but I don't want him/her to have a gender identity issues (j/k) if I give a name of the wrong sex. Can anyone help, cus he/she is only about 3 months, and I cant see any indents or outgrowths on the ventral side. Thank you sooooooooooo much in advance!!

There's no way to tell for sure by just looking at the snake. You need to take it to a good herp shop or a vet to be sexed. Yours is still young enough that it can be sexed easily by "popping". Only an experienced person should try this to prevent injury.

Is there an age where it's too late to get it sexed by "popping"? How else could they do it? Mine's about 7 months old, and I don't know its sex but I just say it's a male because that's what I'd rather have.

After their a couple months old they gain some muscle control that makes it almost impossible to "pop" them. Other methods include probing, blood test, or x-ray (hemipenes have a calcified "sheath" that shows up on an x-ray).
