Where are all the Albinos?!

holy Jan 09, 2004 04:11 AM

I swear, on X-mas, I was looking for an Albino Pacman both online and the real world but all of them says the same thing, we sold out! You can see them all day and everywhere but the one day you actually want one, it's nowhere to be found. It's like everyone bought an albino pacman for a gift.

Same in the UK.
I had to wait months for the suppliers here to source a handful. And even then they were more expensive than usual. Maybe we are just not looking in the right places. I bet there are loads of posts from folk wh say they know where there are loads!!!!
My first albino cost me a mint. I worked in the UK's largest herp store/breeding facility. When the first albino came in I told my boss I was not leaving until I owned that frog. As I could not afford it he took my six normal ceratophrys and twenty quid a week for a month out of my wages!!! Glad to have got hold of another for old times sake, still expensive but not so bad this time.
Maybe we should breed them!

Whoa!!! there's an albino pacman scarcity going on!!! How much did it cost you to buy your first albino?
Oh, one quickie, is it true that green pacmans retain their greeness forever? I know they change from green to brown.

I got my albino female about two years ago. She was about 2 years or more old at the time. I paid $30.00 (US dollars) for her then.
I also have not seen many albinos in pet stores around here, recently. I think it's the season; no one really wants to ship frogs to a location near Buffalo, NY, snow capital of the USA. Since we are having windchills of -15, I can understand that. There's a general shortage of frogs in many of the shops around here, not just albinos. I guess it's the "off season"!

I bet you're just darn proud or just damn crazy about that frog because I see you post that pic everytime you get the chance.
What's its name?

ginevive Jan 09, 2004 07:56 AM

That's Bene, my female albino. I am just crazy about this frog; it is one of my most prized posessions. So yeah, I do post pics of her a lot. She's about four years old now, and nice and chubby.
Also, she is very hard to photograph (she does not just sit still like most horned frogs, but always tries to get away.) So that's why it's usually just the same pic I use of her all the time.
Bene's currently buried in for a few months, perhaps, of brumation, and I am starting to forget what she looks like!

Ain't that cute I just like it when my Albino Horned Frog (Mandella-Banana) bury herself. She has the reddest eyes. I just love animals with red eyes
Hey, how old do you think is my pacman? She's 2 inches in size.

ginevive Jan 09, 2004 01:32 PM

I would guess she has been a frog for perhaps a year, or maybe a bit longer. Usually they take a few years to get to their adult size, but it depends on how much you feed. Once they get past the 1-inch mark, their survival rate goes up a lot.

I got myself one ;oP

Here is my regular one too...

Although I bought him about 4 months ago. But my local shop has them in regularly. Chicago Reptile House, I belive their website is www.chicagoreptile.com but im not sure and it might be down at the moment.

They have them here at local pet shops like petco and petsmart, but i loathe those places. Over priced, under cared.

Hope you find yourself one!

As for prices, I bought my albino for 24.99 from the above store.

As for size and age. Mine is exactly 2" long and 2" wide! Ive owned him for about 3 or 4 months. Not sure how old he was when i bought him but he was about an inch or inch and a half.

You lucky bastard!I like your albino! So yellow and so Red eyes!!! So plump and round!!! I bought mine for $30.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!! Not only it was way unde cared for, it was really thin too! i want to buy one online bt most of them are out of stock. those who have one are seeling them for $20.00 or so shipping totaling to more or less $70.00. I'm just not that rich and stupid to buy a frog in that price.

oogieboogie Jan 11, 2004 12:25 AM

Thanks Ginevive!

holy - haha yeah I feel lucky! I loved my albino so much I had to get a green baby as well. Im seirously in love with these frogs. I think its because I can relate to them so much! Eat, sleep, eat, wiggle, eat, sleep sleep sleep sleep EAT!

And I hear on buying them online. Id feel raped paying that much cash. I only buy larg things online. Its the only way it works out, especially since my local store rocks socks and is really competative in prices.

I belive they advertise on here as well, not sure what they charge for shipping though.

And Jabba the Frog is a plumper it seems, although his brother Hooter the Frog seems like he might surpass Jabba altogether soon. He is a beast at eating!

Hooter? That's an interesting name for a frog... How about when you get a green pacman, you name him Willy and then breed them

oogieboogie Jan 11, 2004 02:12 PM

Yup Hooter! I name all my frogs names that mean something to me. And I LOOOVE the resturant Hooters! O)
