Acf eggs/tadpoles!!

ginevive Jan 09, 2004 06:53 AM

Not long ago, my acfs were acting strangey one morning. They were clamped together in amplexus, but the female was stuffing things into her mouth. And I had not fed them! It was eggs. She must have eaten most of them, but I managed to salvage about 200 from that initial breeding. They are now tadpoles, almost an inch long each.
Also, another batch came about 5 days later. These guys have just hatched, and are slowly starting to swim around the tank. They cling to the sides of the tank, and drop from time to time, swimming. I have maybe three hundred of these!
I have been feeding the larger ones on a mixture of mortar-and-pestel ground fish flakes and blendered spiniach. Any other ideas on foods to offer?
Any tips on tadpoles raising and management? I currently have the larger batch in a slightly aerated 30-gallon tank, and the others are in 10 and 5 gallon tanks.
Here's a pic of the happy mating couple a few days before actually mating. You can see that he had things kinda backwards. :D

CONGRATULATIONS! That is so exciting. I can't wait to breed mine. I know that you could feed them the floating sticks that are made for tadpoles. You can buy them at most pet stores. The bottle looks like the regular floating sticks but it says baby on it, I believe. You need to crush them of course.
