sick U. Guentheri

kristapo Jan 09, 2004 09:44 AM

I have a problem with my U. Guentheri female. After copulation, she is lying on the bottom, lifeless, allmost white and cold. She is in good condition, till now...
There has been no changes in feeding, humidity or temperature.
Has anyone tried something like it? And is anyone having the cure? Thinking of rachitis, and trying to give her some calcium now.
Regards,
Kristian Poulsen, DK, Europe.

Hi Kristian,

Guentheri females often suffer from too much egg laying; always keep them under uv lighting and give them calcium vitamin D3 (minerall 1 is a good one,you can order from reptilia in holland).Someting good to make females rcover is to propose them sized land snails.

Hope this will help,

Fred.

Hi Fred.
Thank you for your help. I started giving her fluid calcium, which has already helped her alot.

Glad to hear she is doing better. You can prevent this by doing as Fred suggests and offering a few land snails every month. If that is not possible, even mixing Miner-all (indoor) with water and a bit of the liquid calcium and giving her a few drops every week or two during breeding will help.

Best wishes,
Neil Meister
