Clarification of NC native collection rules ...

snakum Jun 05, 2003 08:14 AM

Since getting back into hot snakes, I've heard alot of conflicting information about the new NC laws concerning keeping native endangered species (C. Horridus, C. Adamanteus, etc.) and now that I've found out directly from the NC Wildlife commision exactly what the new rules are, I thought I'd post them as a service to fellow hot keepers in NC who may not be in the loop.

Currently, the Horridus and Adamanteus are not yet on the endangered list and so only the $5.00 Wildlife Collectors license is required, and then only if you have more than five specimens. The rules for the additions to the endangered list are still being clarified in Raleigh and these clarifications will be mailed out to all holding the Collectors license as soon as the new laws are written in stone.

Apologies to those for whom this news is (very) old news already.

I imagine anyone in NC who read this last week laughed their asses off at my naivete. But just for the record ...

Now that my name, phone number, and place of residence is known by the powers that be ... canebrakes are indeed endangered already (the rules ARE in effect, they're merely being clarified) and if they find one at my house, even a captive-born specimen ... BEND OVER BABY, HERE IT COMES!
