Oaky, so I got my 15 high set up with a screen lid. I plan to use a 60 watt red light and a full-spectrum fluorescent over the tank. Substrate is orchid bark, included cork bark, pothos, and a snakeplant for furnishings.

wheres the bamboo? they need it thick enough for the gecko hide in
do HAVE to have bamboo?
IMO, yes. Bamboo provides perching spots for them to....perch on. Mine spend 90% of their day on it.
If you dont have them, the geckos will most likely spend most of their time on glass (not good...risk of flap tail syndrome), as plants will provide only some cover.

Couldn't i just put some horizontal perches under the basking light? Why can't they use cork rounds instead? Do they not like cork bark.
Phelsuma would do fine in a 15 gall high. A good canidate for your cage would be P. laticauda or P. dubia. There are several others be these are great for a novice keeper. Ditch that red bulb and get a 40 watt Reveal bulb at wal mart. Make sure that you have bamboo horizontally placed under the basking spot.
