adopting a new beardie...but he has a problem...

pogo_the_dragon Jan 09, 2004 06:41 PM

I am going to take him to the vet next week when I go for pogo's fecal. Pogo is 10x better and I believe he's over the coccidia now....He's about 13" now (8" total growth since Sept.!)...Anyway this new beardie has problems using his legs...He reminds me of a sea turtle if you see them walking on a beach. I think he's got MBD!! The person who had him turns his lights off during the day and doesn't turn them on till 4pm and then off again around midnight....He hardly ever dusted his crix...does this sound about right...His legs are pretty limp....I am getting him tomorrow...What can I do immediately to help him before I get him to the vet?????????

Make sure he is well hydrated. Offer him water via a syringe. You can also mix calcium and some vitamins in the water. There are some drops called “Bone Aid” from T-rex. Those drops are concentrated calcium. You can give him that too – if you have. Or just mix calcium in the water.

From what you wrote it sounds like he has MBD… poor dragon – I am happy to hear that you took care of him.

Make sure he gets good UVB. He needs the vitamin D to absorb the calcium.

Maybe he need a calcium shot, but only the vet can give him that, so it is a good thing to bring him (and a poop sample) to the vet as soon as possible.

Good luck!
