CB Second Generation on Their Way!

edmund Jan 09, 2004 08:36 PM

Just wanted to share my good news...a T. ibera female that I hatched here nine years ago mated with a male I hatched here seven years ago. Two weeks ago, she deposited her first clutch of five eggs and four of them are fertile. In about 40-60 or so more days, I should have my first clutch of second generation babies. I think that's pretty cool.

Congratulations,- that must feel wonderful!
You obviously give your torts the perfect care!
Hope you'll share pics of the babies with us, once they are hatched!
Good luck, Gaby

Nice. It is very satisfying to get multiple generations in tortoises!
Would love to see pictures of the F1 parents as well as the new hatchlings (when they hatch).

I will take some pics of the parents and post them (Gad! it's been such a long time since I've posted photos here, I hope I remember how to do it), as well as post photos of the babies as soon as they arrive.
Coincidently, the same female I wrote about laid two more eggs today!
The one infertile egg she laid (I am assuming it's infertile) is about half the size of the others. I'm incubating it anyway just in case.
You know, I've been keeping tortoises for at least 15 years, but every time one of my females nests it feels just like Christmas.

Edmund, it is great to see your post and how wonderful about your breeding success. Merry Christmas! Also, bring us up to date on Evelyn and how she is doing. She (your posts about her)is the reason I decided that I must have Asian Mountain Tortoises.
