Results from first rat litters

My 1.4 group of rats produced 1 litter of 10, one litter of 7 and one litter of 3. The forth female hasn't had any babies yet, she may be snake food soon! I was thinking of raising one or more of the female babies born from the female that produced 10, she is the only one with color, the rest are albinos. Is there any danger in breeding one of the babies back to the original father or should I get another male?

JMHO, FWIW, YMMV.

No immediate danger but long term inbreeding can weaken the resulting offspring. Eventually you may need an unrelated male. Probably be easier to buy a young male to go with the young females and start a separate colony.

Good advice, I will do that.

One great advantage of rats is that a male can be removed and reintroduced into a colony. I have two basic 'strains' in my colony and once we are a couple three line breedings back to dad I switch to a less/unrelated dad.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with the software.
