One of my veilds laid a clutch on Oct. 14th. It is her (and my) first clutch. I placed them on moist fine vermiculite and put them up for incubation at room temps. After a few days I thought i would like to candle a few to see what they looked like. They glowed yellow and could find a 1/16 inch spot of light red. It's been almost 3 months. None of the eggs have molded or colapsed, but I can't see any change when I candle them. They are no longer the bright white they were when I dug them up, but I really attribute that to the vermiculite more than anything else. Ive talked to the breeder I got them from and he's never candled his.
I cut into 2 the other day and they acted like they were under pressure, both squirting out a milky white liquid, nothing I could say was a yolk or a clear egg white,no developing mass I could identify, but no odor either. I read in one of my books that immediately upon laying, the eggs were supposed to be suffused with veins, and in another book I read that you would know when diapause ended because you would see red in the eggs as blood cells started to be produced. Which is it, and what might be going on? She looks ready to lay her next clutch next week, and would like to know what I should look for for fertile eggs.
Thanks,
John
