Nightcrawler Parasites?

dextar Jan 09, 2004 11:59 PM

I have been purchasing nightcrawlers from PetSmart, and I am not sure if they raise these for fish bait, or for reptiles. My question is if this will pose future parasite problems for my MHD? Morgana seems to LOVE nightcrawlers, and I would hate to have to switch these out of her diet, and I would also hate to constantly be battling parasite problems with her(although I think she likes the taste of the medicine =).

Is there a way to get nightcrawlers without parasites, or feed them something to erradicate the parasites? I do put a little bag balm inside the feed bowl, but I don't think this will kill the parasites, or maybe it will?

I am trying to find some resources for places that sell nightcrawlers raised in 'normal' soil. But I don't want to purchase more than 20 at a time. These worms reak, when they die!

One more question then I'm done for today =) Morgana seems to be ignoring all insects except for large nightcrawlers. Is there something I need to do to get her to eat gutloaded crickets, superworms(which she loved before), or any other insect?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
-Derek

(btw. sorry if I am posting so much, but the more I learn about these reptiles, the more detailed my questions become. I am a very tedious pet owner, and am very stubborn when it comes to keeping my herps alive).

I was kind of apologizing if, my posts are getting cumbersome and annoying. And I was just trying to explain why I am posting so much, and 'herps' should be replaced with 'pets,' but herps are just the hardest to care for, IMHO. Anyways, I do appreciate your guy's kindness and advice.

Thanks,

I work in a petsmart, ant they are raised for reptile food, not fish bait, so just like with superworms and crickets, there shouldn't be a parasite problem.
