I recently purchased a ball python from my local pet store (I know...I most likely shouldn't have, but that's beside the point). Within 48 hours of bringing her home she is displaying many RI symptoms: open mouth breathing, excess saliva, popping/clicking noises, etc. I plan on taking her to the vet on Monday (they won't be open until then)and have already increased the temps in her tank.
Since my local vet does not have (much)experience with herps he has told me in the past to figure out what I need and he'll do his best to help.
So, I have three questions:
#1. What are the available treatment options and doseages for a ball python weighing about 90-105 grams with RI?
#2. I've already increased the temps in her tank, being that she is about to shed I have her humidity hide in there also. She has spent most of her time in there since I bought her, should I remove it after she sheds or allow her to stay there? Basically, is the increased humidity going to make her situation worse?
#3. I bought another BP from the same store and since they were housed together there (for about the last three weeks) I allowed them to stay together in my tank at home. She is displaying none of the symptoms of her sibling (yet). Should I split them up? Treat both of them with antibiotics (the second one as a preventative measure)? Suggestions?
Looking for a reply ASAP, Monday I'm going into the vet so I'd appreciate advice for both now (over the weekend) and when I see the vet (?'s to ask, treatment options, doseages etc.)
Thanks ahead of time. I appreciate it.
