RACK SYSTEM HELP.............BOAPHILE

jag Jan 10, 2004 01:28 AM

Hello,

We recieved a rack system for christmas from Boaphile. WE set it up only a few days ago (3 to be exact) and well it isnt keeping the heat up at all. Everything is hooked up right. We have it set at 88 degrees (Its used for Leopard Geckos) with a difference of 1 degree. Well the temps have been flaucuating between 78-83 degrees. The thermostate is set on Fahrenheit at 88 degrees on H (Heat) with a 1 degree of change. Other than that everything is hooked up right. We have the probe in the 3rd drawer right above the paper towels and it says 78 degrees. We have a thermomater in there and it says about 79-80 degrees. WE have the Blanket Box Rack and the single thermostate.
Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not very familiar with boaphile racks, so I'm not sure if they come with a thermostat, or if you are using a thermostat that you purchased seperatly. That being said, when I set up a new rack, I use the Alife thermostat, but I ignore the settings on the dial. I set my probe just above the floor of the shelf it's measuring. I monitor the temps in the boxes and and adjust the thermostat as needed. Once I am happy with the temps I leave the thermostat alone and check the temps over the next couple of days to ensure they are staying where I want, then I put the geckos in the boxes. Get an electronic temp gun, they are very inexpensive these days, check your temps whenever you are feeding or cleaning the boxes. Also, be sure the location of the rack isn't in a room with a lot of temperature fluctuations.

I purchased the thermostate that he recommends to get with the rack. My house is heated so there are no real temp flucuations. HMMM... I emailed him so lets see what he says.

This is one reason (of many) that I feel the Animal Plastics racks are superior to the Boaphiles. I have one blanket box Boaphile rack, and I can never get it up to 90 degrees on the warm side. I don't even use a thermostat on this rack, it is just plugged directly into the wall! There is no need for a thermostat because it never gets above 86 degrees in the backs of the boxes, even with it on all the time. Boaphile racks probably are ok if the room they are located in is a heated room that stays around 84 degrees during the day, but in a house that is normal room temperature, they just do not cut it.

If I were you I would certainly email Jeff Ronne with your concerns and see what, if anything, he suggests you do in order to make the warm ends of the boxes get up to 90 degrees. I don't think you can, but anyway, let me know what you find out from him. Good luck!

That is surely some crap if he sales these systems to people saying they get so hot u have to use a thermostate and hell they cant even get up to 90 degrees. I emailed him lastnight. So we shall see what he says. If it comes to that. What good does the rack really do me. I am pretty upset right now. BUt I will wait and see what he has to say before I get really mad. Why would people spend so much money on something that doesnt do what it is suppose to do.

Hmm, I was thingking that if i ever needed a rack, which i hope to some day, that boaphile (or whatever) plastics would be where i'd buy. I guess not now. What was the Animal Plastics thing you mentioned Kelli? Thanks alot!!
