Ok, I just got a pyro on Wed. I have a 40gallon terrarium, water, the warm side is btw 75-82 degrees, and the cold side is usually 70 degrees. I use zoo-med's head pad for heat. The humidity is at 55%. I read it's supposed to be btw 40-60% (more if it's shedding). I have a non-heat emitting uva/uvb light that's only on during the day for 8-12 hours. I have a hiding place on the cold and one on the warm side. He has been exploring at night only after I cover half of the cage with a towel to give him privacy, but everytime I see him he's usually under the hiding spot on the cold side. Or if I lift the towell he immediatly goes under the hiding spot on the cold side. Is this ok??? I'm afraid he'll be too cold, cus from what I've read on these forums about temperature, it seems that most of the kingsnakes prefer the warm side? I've read several websites regarding care, and got one only after I felt comfortable with my knowledge. So am I doing anything wrong? He's about 3-5 months old. I haven't fed him yet, but I will be doing so on monday. The place I got it from says he's a good eater, I saw him eat on Tueday when he was fed at the pet store, and he does go for the live pinkies easily. The owner fed him outside the terrarium in a large paper bag, so I'll probably do the same b/c he's used to it. another question....about feeding, is it really better to feed him in a separated container so he doesn't associate food with your hand? And since I just got him, should I wait 5 days to handle him, or longer, so he can get used to his new environment. and then after that hold him 3 times a week, but not on feeding day, and the day after feeding???? ok, i think that sums up my worries about being a new mom...it's just that I want the best for him, b/c he's awesome looking....i'll try to post a pic soon!
