ribbon snakes feeding..

zach Jan 10, 2004 07:13 AM

I own two garters and was wondering if the feeding for a ribbon snake varies? My books on ribbon and garters are at my dorm room and I was believe I read somewhere that ribbon tend to eat more earthworms than garters do? I don't remember. Thanks for any responses.

I have 9 varieties of Garters and 1 Ribbon Snake. I have never tried worms with my Ribbon but I have read that unlike other Thamnophis Ribbon Snakes will not eat worms. Mine has fed very well on feeder fish but always looked a bit thin, even for a Ribbon Snake. I swithed him to scented pinkies and he looks terrific and is more alert and active. He now feeds well on unscented pinkies. He eats one to three pinks a week, one being the norm.

Thanks. I bought a ribbon today and the pet store said they fed them feeder fish and I feed my garters them so it's all good. I am going to take a picture of my ribbon and see if anyone can tell me the subspecies, i believe its either western or eastern. Thanks again.
