HA! - I almost got upset there....

Antegy Jan 10, 2004 07:44 AM

Ok, yes, I almost went and got upset about that 15yr old kid. But it's a new year, and I'm determined to have a more positive attitude about things, all things, in life from now on.

So, I'm going to view this little escapade as 'entertainment'. This is good, because I know there's nothing I can do about it - I'll just try and have a good chuckle from it, that's all.

I figure, for all I know "burmking7653" isn't a kid at all. He (or 'she' for that matter) may actually be some older guy, possibly an 'anti-snake' person posing as a 15yr old kid, who is here to taunt us and make us say things we might regret. Maybe he's just trying to push our buttons and make us behave irrationally so that he may find things to use against us in his 'anti-snake' efforts.

Or maybe, just maybe, he is actually just a typical 15yr old kid. Maybe he just doesn't understand how illiterate his posts portray him to be; with all his typos, grammatical errors, and purportedly 'cool' instant messaging 'lingo'. Perhaps he is just that kind of kid who is going to get a Burmese python because he wants to - and he can, because his mom said so. Maybe he's not worried about what he will have to do with it when he goes to college because he doesn't plan on going to college (where he might learn how to write grammatically correct texts). Maybe he is going to invite his friend over to see his cool new snake eat a mouse - and then hold the snake. Maybe he is going to think it's funny to scare the girl next door with his cool new snake.

Maybe it's time that I move on from this thread. It frustrates me to the point of deep suspicion to know that there are people out there who are potentially very damaging to the future of herping, people that I will never meet or know, people that I have no significant influence over, people who I am completely unable to help or stop (people who upset me enough to make me write incredibly long, run-on sentences!).

I'll be back when another subject (an interesting one) comes up,
- Mark

I think it is a troll. The age on the subject line gives it away as a thread intended to incite something as does the separate, atrociously written post to Rob Carmichael. Once in a while, even trolls help bring about a good discussion among others though. As for the forum, it is a good thing to leave every once in a while to retain perspective, imo. I left a few months ago and swore the place off but then I found that despite it all, there are more decent people here than I thought I knew elsewhere. Still, in the thick of things, it is hard to keep one's reasoning and we should do what we have to in order to keep the forum productive and fresh. In the grand scheme of things, it is only a forum and we are always just one click away from sanity, at least that is what I tell myself.

I actually think your run on sentence was quite amusing and the fact that you actually caught it and commented on it is quite hysterical. Todd

Oddly enough,I must agree with you. Burmking does seem to be 15 to me at all. It seems a ruse.
