OK, called the vet at the University of Madison..Please read..credible?

Linda G Jan 10, 2004 09:36 AM

This vet does not believe she is dependent for feedings. He
seems to believe that something, possibly a missed ovary is the
problem.

He stated that Iguanas do not get gravid in May and June, but
in November and December so this is not normal. Is this true
and could I have missed a problem from November and December
as he feels she may have had this problem for awhile? I do
not believe I missed anything!

He wants to see her and repeat all bloodwork, xrays and possibly
do an Ultrasound. What do you guys think? All tests were
normal back over Labor Day and she has been improving as I said
in the last post. I don't want to have to take her out in
winter time as it is very cold here right now.

Please give some responses, do you think he sounds like he
really knows alot about Iguanas?

Thanks in advance

I know Iguanas who drop eggs in March and I have a spayed iguana who injured herself digging in May and June.

I've also had female iguanas that dropped eggs in June and August (and November and January, etc). There isn't much about iguanas that can be called a "given" or is written in stone. If it will answer some questions or ease your mind, there are ways to safely transport her even in cold weather.

I have heard of iguanas that drop year round. I would rather you spend the money and travel time heading to Dr. Steven Barten in Mundelien IL. He has more practical experience. I have had some issues with things coming out of the vet school. You know where to find me.
