Cold Forest design questions

lbonachea Jan 10, 2004 10:14 AM

Hi,

I'm in the process of designing a nice cold forest habitat for my cresteds. I just had a few questions:

1) Has anyone used these ultrasonic foggers? How deep of a reservoir do you need for them? Can they work on a lamp timer?

2) I want to use some nice lichen and moss covered logs I've collected from nearby forests. I want to know if deep freezing them will be enough to sterilize them. We dont normally get any freezing here. The deep freezer is for lab use and gets really cold so I expect the wood will freeze solid.

Thats all for now, thanks!

not sure about the fogger never had 1...Now about the logs ...I think the only way to sterilize them you would have to boil them or put them in you oven for abit...Im pretty sure if you froze them it would just preserve the bacteria and other harmfull stuff like that.....HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thanks all for your help!

I finally decided to put that stuff through the ringer so all the dry wood was bleached, frozen and baked at 120 F for 2 hours. It lost all it nice color, but I've be culturing mosses and lichens to transplant on. The tank will be done in a week or two when the background finishes drying. I'll post lots of pics!
