Just search through the archives and the rest of the posts on this forum.

This is an ongoing debate that no one can say what is the "best".

Calci-sand is NOT okay. It leads to impaction. Many people, including me, do not see the point in risking your animals life for how well the tank looks. Use something that is not granular. Papertowles, tile, shelf liner....something.

Most people recommend paper towels and to stay away from sand. You can use sand if make sure that your leo isn't eating on the sand...That will keep it from injesting it, which is what causes impaction. If you put tile (ceramic, slate, rough linoliom, vinyl) at one end of the tank and feed it mealworms in a dish it works great. You can also just use tile and put paper towels in the "bathroom" end of the tank instead of sand. When I get back to school in my 20 gallon I will have vinyl tile at one end of the tank, and vita-sand at the other. I may do the same with my 10 gallon. Vinyl tiles are good because you can cut them with scissors! The only downside is that you have to put something on the back because they are usually preglued and you need to be able to take them out of the tank to clean them. I like tile because you can get it to look very natural. Anyway, that's what I've got to say, hope it helps!
