I wish people could see

I wish they could see my White lip python. Ive been to a bunch of sites that say white lips are way agressive, and that in fact handling wont even tame them. Mine is totally wild caught and after 2 days she tamed right down. Shes absolutely the most tame snake in my collection, but also the most cooparative. My carpets are tame, but they'll move their heads if you touch them. You could touch my white lips head and she doesnt even move it unless you move to fast. They also seem to be real smart, she knows exactly where her hide box is, absolutely no thought process whatsoever, unlike my carpets and bloods. I just dont know if they deserve a bad rap- how about your wlps? Are they mean? Right now I cant imagine what a defensive white lip would be like
leiopython.de is probably only site worth looking at on these guys.

Hi there,

...leiopython.de is probably only site worth looking at on these guys.

first of all thanks for the compliment! I really appreciate that. But to be honest, there aren't that much sites about wlps and mine hasn't been updated for a long time yet. But I promise I'll do so soon!

Wlps are not really aggressive, but they are alert. They indeed have a bad reputation for biting, but as I always say (I know some of you don't agree, right Joan ) they are trustworthy snakes that calm down as soon as they are out of the cage. They are not like puppy dogs, but if you watch them closely and learn how they behave in different situations they can easily be handled. Most often the biggest problem is to get them out of the cage. As they will defend their territory. There also are different characters in wlps. No all of them will bite. Some even will refuse to bite, but will only hiss (these short and frequent hisses that are normal in wlps) and some of them will strike with their mouth shut. Others will strike with their mouth wide open, ready to kill your fingers or you arm. You can't tell generally that wc animals are devils. Some are, others are not.

Yes, I also do believe that they are quite smart. They have incredable tactics to catch prey, I guess they also recognized what you are doing when you've got your hands in the cage. When the buld has to be changed in my cages, they come close to it and just lay down relaxed and watching my doing. They could strike from that distance, but they don't. They also tell you when they do not want to be disturbed

If you ask me: No they don't deserve this bad reputation! And they are not mean in any way. Just remember these python have a lot of enemies and food competition in the wild. They therefore have to be alert, but that has nothing to do with evil, but more with surviving! That is their natural habit. I am almost sure that the recognized that you - as a wlp keeper - are not an enemy nor are you comeptition.

my thoughts on these beautiful pythons.

Cheers,
Wulf

So alert, and ready to destroy things! It was just nasty. As soon as anyone came in the room, he'd come out of his hide ready for action. Funny thing was...though I'm sure he could see us, he would never strike at the glass. As soon as I would open the cage and got within range (quite a distance BTW lol) BAM! And he wouldn't just strike, he would strike and give you a semi-wrap with a twist for good measure. He would release instantly, and if I didnt move a muscle I'd be fine, but if i moved....BAM! lol Rotten thing even grabbed a friend of mine on the bridge of his nose once LMAO, we still laugh about that one.
