Not Eating

squirl Jun 05, 2003 09:37 AM

Hello. I wonder if any one can help me. My beardie, Spike, is nearly 2 yrs old and he wont eat. He used to eat alot of greens and crickets, but now he wont eat any live foods( even if I try hiding them in his food) and he only eats a mouthful of greens. Right now he hasn't eaten for three days. He looks depressed but otherwise he is perfectly healthy. What can I do to get him to eat? I am very worried as it is not like him at all. I have taken him to a vet but they can't find anything wrong with him.

Did the vet run a fecal? Did you take your bd to a qualified herp vet? It isnt uncommon for a regular cat/dog vet to not know whats going on with a reptile that comes in, thats why I ask.

Also when you say he looks depressed, does that mean he is laying around (less active), droopy eyed and or sleeping alot?

What are the temps in the enclosure both daytime and nighttime and how many hours a day are you keeping the lights on?

Unfortunately it sounds like it could be a number of things and thats why I asked the questions I did to hopefully narrow it down a little.

Thanks, Lindsay

Yes they did run a fecal but it came back normal, the temperature is about 28c in the basking area and at night 21c. Iturn his lights on at 7.30 when I get up and turn them of at 10.00pm. He lies around in his viv most of the time with his eyes closed and today refuses to eat anything, even tomatoes which is his favourite.(They are an occasional treat as I heard too much tomatoe is bad for him). When I take himout to handle he walks around as usual and loves it outside, but I can't keep him outside as I live in England. At the moment it has turned cold. Do you think he could just be sulking as he likes it outside so much?
