Dwarf Pyxie (Pyxicephalus edulis) Can anyone give me a care sheet?

oogieboogie Jan 10, 2004 12:19 PM

My local petshop has some dwarf pyxies for sale and I am thinking about purchasing one.

Ive searched all over google and I cannot find a caresheet specifically designed for the dwarf pyxie. All I find caresheets for is the larger brother.

Thanks in advance.

Same care as horned frogs or african bullfrogs. There is a caresheet for both on my site listed below. A 20 gallon long tank should be sufficient, but the rest is just like horned or african bulls. Andy

I bought one of those this past summer. I really like him! His care really is remarkably similar to my horned frog. The differences I've noticed is that he doesn't eat as much as my HF & seems to like it wetter- he soaks most of the day, every day, whereas my HF soaks for an hour or so a day, most days. I keep them both on EcoEarth w/ a large water bowl & some fake plants. I feed them each once a week, although my DP hasn't eaten in weeks & my HF is clearly estivating. (My whole herp room has slowed down for the winter).
Best of luck! I really like mine. He's quite beautiful!

Thanks alot for the info buffysmom! I wasnt sure if they were the exact same or not. But now that i know they pretty much are, it explains why there are no caresheets around for them.

Thanks again

I did the same thing when I found mine in a local petstore. I googled & Yahood my heart out, to no avail, but I got good info between this forum & the petshop & have since found it to be true. Enjoy!
