Basking Light question

Hi,

I asked a petshop owner how he heated his cages at night and he told me that he just left his basking light on 24 hours a day...What are your guys' input on this? What do you think is the best way to keep a cage warm at night?

well i keep my lights on 24/7,and when my nile wants too go cool down or sleep in the dark she retreats to her hideCant say ive had any problems with doing it this way.
