HI, I HAVE TWO WATERS ABOUT 3 FOOT EACH. LOVLY LITTLE MONSTERS THEY ARE, LOVE TO EAT. I KEEP MINE IN A ROOM THAT I BUILT FOR THEM. IF YOUR LOOKING TO BUILD A CAGE THE MINIMUM I WOULD GO IS 12x6, AND THAT IS MINIMUM. MORE IS BETTER. IF PLANNING TO BUY A WATER MY ADVISE WOULD BE TO GET A FEW RAT BREEDING COLONIES GOING BECAUSE THESE GUYS ARE EATING MACHINES, A EXAMPLE I GO THREW 12 MED RATS A WEEK WITH TWO MONITORS ALONE.
How old is this 4FT monitor? I have a 3FT salvator in a 8'L x 4'T X 3'Wide. Mine however is 15-16 yrs. old according to the previous owner, and is going to get any longer. I would be thinking about how much bigger the monitor is going to get. As the previous post mentioned, a room is generally the best bet for these guys. My rule for cage size minimums is twice the length of the reptile for length, half the length for width. As for height, you have to consider how deep the substate you are going to use and if the reptile likes to climb. I have a nice log in my cage that runs from the bottom to the top and see my salvator on it from time to time. Just my 2 cents.
