I want to buy a monitor, but I just have a few quick questions, please read?

Hi Everyone,

I just have a few quick questions with choosing a monitor. I have owned monitors in the past (including an adult ackie and a young nile). As of now, I currently own a pythons. I would like to try a larger species monitor, but NOT a water monitor!

You know I've read a couple of books, seen several websites, and seen many monitors at herp shows. I've controlled my temptation to purchase in the hope that researching more and more would help me decide.

If you haven't owned the larger species before (like myself), I'm sure your question may be similar, "What do I buy?" I'm not one to purchase something and than sell it back. I like to purchase something and stick with it (I have the room).

I few monitors in my price range include: Argus, Timor, yellow tree monitor, peach thoat, and argus/flavi crosses.

What are your experiences with the monitors listed above? I could continue reading books, but first-hand experience from you guys would be much more useful

Thanks,

Peter F.

the Ionides (Blackthroats) are so far and away my favorite large monitor, they are simply terrific animals with a ton of potential.

check out our site for more monitor info, covering a number of species, be sure to look in the caresheet and FAQ sections

I recently went through a similar situation as yours. But research your animals and pick the right one for you. I chose to get a argus cross, but there were some close runner-ups. Good luck with your pet search!
