Question on Posting Pics

cito Jan 10, 2004 02:12 PM

I just got a digital camera for my birthday today and I cant wait to put it to use. When I go to the uploading page, there is something that says how much disk space remaining you have. Mine is currently: 1024.0k (1048576 bytes) About how many pics would that be? What happens once I run out of disk space?

If you're uploading to pet hobbyist (kingsnake) when you run out of disk space you just can't upload any more pics. Most photo hosting sites are like that.
How many pics are in 1000k depends on the file size of the pics. If you right click on the pic file and go to properties, it will tell you how big the pic is. The .jpg format is used by most digital cameras and can store pics with a relatively small amount of memory. I can have decent looking pics that are as little as 30k, but I have to resize them. Without resizing or lowering the quality (something you can do with .jpg), my camera takes pics that are something like 200 or 300k. Most cameras come with resizing software.
Also, keep in mind smaller is kinder when you're emailing photos.

So basically if I dont have the resizing software, then I can only get about 3 -5 pics. Isnt there a way that I can purchase more space? I thought I read something when I was registering that said how much space I wanted, and I just picked the lowest amount that was free. But I thought there were other choices there that had more space but cost like $8 a month or something. Or maybe I am just mistaken.

I've got Windows XP. If I right click on a .jpg, I can select 'edit', which opens the image up in paint. From there it lets me resize it. So you could try that!
I use printroom.com as a backup free photo hosting site. It's got a lot more space but isn't as convenient as kingsnake. I'd probably only pay for the extra space if I were trying to sell something.

So if I were willing to pay the fee, that is what I would have to do once I run out of space right?

Yup... That, or delete old pics.
