Try mealworms. They are easier for them to catch and will fatten them up a little more. I do give my leos some crickets about every other week to change their diet and to give them something to chase. Good luck with your leo!!

do you think i sould dust the mealworms like the crickets?

AgentOfLillith Jan 10, 2004 03:05 PM

mealworms tend to eat the dust though, but not a bad thing.

gutload. You can buy commercial gutload at your petstore if they carry it, if not, you can feed dry dog food, grains (oats, bran, barley, etc), and fresh veggies (carrot, yams, potatoes, apples, greens) to your crickets and mealworms.

Waxworms are real fatty and leos can get addicted to them, so don't feed them more than once a week.

Also, one feeding every 3 days won't get a leo fat. Try feeding every other day, or everyday. Crickets can annoy the heck out of your leo, and they can also bite them, so remove them if she doesn't eat them within 30 min. Mealworms you can have them in there 24/7 in a small shallow dish (make sure they have a piece of carrot or potato so they don't dry up and die).
