How much can I expect to spend on a 50 gallon aquarium?

savana_man Jan 10, 2004 02:46 PM

When I look at 10 gallons at wal-mart they are about 10 bucks so would you say 10 bucks per gallon? I was thinking of trying to find a cheap one or ask the guy down the street how much he can build one for. My gecko collection has increased in the past couple of months and they could use a new aquarium....lol I now have 3 leopards and a pictus.
Thanks in advance
Adam

A fifty gallon will run u about 99.00 new. Look in the thrifties in your newspaper u can find one for next to nothing. Or try yard sales or independent pet stores.

Uh, I don't know where you're getting that number from. I heard you can usually find tanks for $1/gallon at shows. If you can't find a cheap place or a show near you, I'd get it from Twin Oaks. (link below) They sell acrylic terrariums... Alot of people say they'll be scratched up, but I don't find that. I've been using one since I got my beardie in August, and the only real problem is the regular dirt/dust that collects on the sides. And leo's don't really have claws like beardies, anyways. They can ship them, and they're collapsible. Just can't be used to hold water. Ran me about $100 total. ($60 for tank, $20 screen top, $20 shipping) It'd be cheaper if I was nearby to pick it up, but I was oh, about a thousand miles away ;p

Hmmm, I dont know if it has anything to do with location but, here where i'm at, i cant find a 20 gal under 70 dollars. Which is what i paid for mine.

StinaUIUC Jan 10, 2004 09:45 PM

$70 dollars for a 20 gallon?!!! I got mine for $25 at petsmart...the most I saw one for was $45!

gex53 Jan 10, 2004 10:16 PM

It had a bunch of starter stuff in it that i didnt need. It was cheaper than the ones in this individualy owned shop near here.
