problem feeder?

snakemanmatt30 Jan 10, 2004 03:25 PM

I got a hatchling jcp about a month ago and it won't eat anything. I have tried f/t pinks and live ones in and out of the enclosure. It is starting to show some loose skin and I am getting worried. I tried to contact the guy I got hiim from but no word yet. Any info appreciated. Matt

Here are some things you may want to consider. Does your snake have access to a perch? JCP's are very arboreal and many like to hunt from above. Also, what time of day are you feeding? Most will prefer to feed at night. Although most will eventually feed on F/T, I personally prefer to feed problem feeders live food until established. Have you tried pinkies?

Hey jeff, I bought a jungle and a boa from you last year and both are healthy and growing like weeds. I'll just have to buy from people I now and trust from now on. The problem feeder does have a small perch and I feed at night. I have even left it in a small rubbermaid dish over night. I have only tried live rat pinks. I will try and find a mouse pink this weekend. Anyway thanks for your reply. P.S. I may be interested in another jungle after income tax if you will have any available. Thanks Matt

Get yourself a house gecko or an Anole from the locale pet shop. put the food item in a small deli cup with the live lizard/Gecko for an hour or two...then feed the lizard scented food item to your JCP. This might help. If that doesn work, try breaking the tail off the lizard/Gecko and smearing the goo on the food item. This might also work.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I bought a hatchling Coastal Carpet eight months ago. I tried everything mentioned above and then some. Nothing worked, it starved itself for six months before it died. Luckly the store gave me a trade in for a Boa before it died at the store. Hope you have better luck than me. Sean L.
