List of parasite warning signs please...?

LLB Jan 10, 2004 03:57 PM

I want to say first off that I don't have an iguana but a chuckwalla and b/c that forum is so slow i decided to ask my question over here. For those who don't know a chuckwalla would be comparable to a desert iguana on the inside anyway.

so recently i picked up what i thought was a healthy male but he is not doing as well as id hoped. His tail is becoming increasingly boney which has me worried and he eats fine. I have a female too but she is doing great in the exact same environment. What ive noticed in his stools is that they seems really light colored and soft.. today he let one go that smelled horrible! That prompted me to investigate possible parasite infestation. He is pretty active and not acting sickly but he doesnt seem to gain weight. Does this sound like parasites to anyone?

Well what you have listed sounds likely parasites. Runny stools are a sign but not always it can also mean a change in diet or more liquids than usual. The smelly stools though is usually a sign. That's not to say that stools will smell like roses but if you notice an actual change or a very strong smell then it is probably parasites. Take a fresh sample to your vet and they should either be able to do and in office check or else send it off. If they haven't been already it is always good to have a checkup done on any new animals added to your household. Some will not show signs of sickness or parasites until it has become a major problem.
