Sticking tongue out/Biting tongue

orca Jan 10, 2004 09:07 PM

I have noticed in the past couple of days that my Iguana has been sitting around with his mouth just barely open and his tongue out. When I picked him up today I noticed that the very tip of his tongue is really red. He is still able to pull his tongue into his mouth and when he bit me his jaw seemed pretty strong. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks. Here's a pic to help the diagnosis.

This picture looks totally fake, nice photoshop job.

this picture is not fake. I have others if you would like to see them. sometimes when you use a flash in a dark room the background gets darker.

Do you notice any swelling under his chin or in his dewlap? Any swelling in the neck area? In the photos his lower jaw looks kinda full to me. Swelling in this area could be a sign of many different things including kidney disease. A vet visit is in order if you are concerned.

There is a little bit of swelling in his lower jaw. I am making an appointment for the vet on monday morning. thanks for the info.
