New cage for the retic * lots of pics*

Kestrel Jan 10, 2004 10:55 PM

Well Hector finally gets upgraded. Someone in my herp society called me one day and asked me if I needed a large cage, for free.. Naturally I said yes. He said it was maybe 4ft by 6ft, and that he had housed his 18ft retic in it for the past 20 years, but she recently passed away so had no need for the cage. We drove to his place to pick it up, and were abashed by its sized, even unassembled in his garage. My boyfriend has a pickup, and we were doubtful we could even get the floor peice into the back. The floor section weighs easily 200lbs by iteself. We managed to get all of it into the truck and make it home. Took us all night and alot of work to get it put together. Its made of 1" plank wood lined with 1/4" Formica, with 2 huge sliding doors made of 1.5" thick wood on the frame and extra thick glass. Once put together, we measured it. It turned out to be a hair under 8ft long, 5ft tall and a hair under 5ft deep. Plus it came with a full madrona tree that screws into place. Once we got it set up, it housed 3 8ft rescue Redtails for a couple months, but now that they're gone, the retic gets it. He's just under 8ft long, but he looks tiny in the pictures. He's a tad on the thin side due to a past medical problem.
