That is exactly what I told you, and you started flaming me (on AIM), and why ? because I tried to help you out and warn you ? how old are you ? 12 ?

Do you keep your igs in the same cage? Is there dominance issues between your two igs? It seems that he is on the thin side. If there is dominance issues he may not be getting enough of anything if the other is bullying him. Sometimes it doesn't even take any physical action by the other lizard. Dominance can be "felt" (to put it simply) by other less dominant lizards that are housed together. This along can be fatal. It is hard to help you with anything else. I don't know how your cage is setup or what the igs diet is either. Good luck.

no my igs totally get along they always lay near ech other and stuff.......that picture he looks skinny cuz right after that i fed him......today he is so fat.....he just looks too browmn......i need to know how to get rid of it

JADE2U Jan 11, 2004 12:20 AM

It is my experience that even if they look as if they are getting along, there can still be psycological damage happening, doesn't matter what the sexes are or the size ratio. It was just a suggestion from what I have experienced in iguanas and other lizards.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "get rid of it"? If you think you can just snap your fingers and have him change back to completely green again, it's not going to happen. Unfortunately, iguanas don't work like that.

DUDE I"M NOT AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW I CAN'T JUST SNAP MY FINGERS AND HAVE HIM BE NORMAL! Dude, you have temper problems, people are trying to help you and you snap, I think before you bought your "healthy" iguanas you needed help with yourself, i dont think your capable of caring of iguanas, especially after you told me you keep them in your basement!!

This is how iguana supposed to look;

I am sorry to say this man but your iguana is looking very bad! He has no fat on his tail and his limbs are extremely thin... I give him 3 weeks max. The reason his color is so drab is probably linked to the poor diet, lighting, parasites and disease... could be 1 of them or could be all of them. Describe in detail what you are feeding him along with the cage structure and lighting.

I went through that with one of my Igs. At first it seemed like he was stressed out. I had the 2 igs in the same cage and they were about the same age and size. One was thriving and bright green while the other gradually got real dark. He was eating and active then all of a sudden just got real sluggish like and started loosing weight pretty fast. He was pooping and eating normal, but he was still loosing weight and slowing down.(this all took place within like 1 week, except for the being dark part.He was dark for 2 weeks before, after he shed.) I took him to the vet and they kept him for 3 days and gave him antibiotic shots. They called me to pick him up and I couldn't get him to the following day. The next morning they called and said he didn't make it. I would suggest taking him to the vet to be sure because the longer you wait the worse he will get and the less of a chance he has. I hope this was a little helpful, not like some of the other posts you got. The basement doesn't sound like a bad place for igs because it's quiet and probably damp and humid. As long as they have the proper uvb,diet,heat,and accomodations I don't think igs really want to be in the middle of the living room with everybody staring at them all the time. Sorry for such a long post.

Housing two igs together is bad. I don't think it is as bad when they are young, but when they get older they will become very territoial. It's worth a try to sepparate them anyway. I now have 2 igs. in the same cage and it seems like they are getting along great. The smaller one is always sitting and sleeping on or next to the larger one. And they are both very active and eat like horses. My iggy's are piggy's. Anyway, I am builing another cage just from the advice of others to be on the safe side. I don't want to cause them any unnessesary stress if I can help it. My little ig is maybe 10 months old, and the larger one is 2 years old. Here is a pic. of them 2 days after I got the larger one.

well the first thing you are doing wrong is keeping two igs in the same cage. it rearly ever works out. but there are a few and i mean a very few cases where it works out for a short amount of time like in Sam-N-Ellas case. but your igs are different all together. and when you say that you have had past igg experiance what do you mean by that how long have you had yours where did you buy them? we need more info. on your set up, and what you are feeding them, lighting temps and stuff like that to help you out more. Did you even do any reaearch about them before you got them? the one in the pic looks terrible his legs are so skinny. and even if you feed them one feeding will not make him fill out in his legs and everything. i rescued an igg from petco and it took him 3 weeks before he started to improve. have you thought about brining him to a vet? if you havent you should. and if you cant afford to bring him then you should not even have the igg in the first place.

First of all, I am not a dude. Lesson in life, don't make the mistake of always think you are talking to a man.

Second of all, the information I gave you was very useful. Since you didn't provide any information on diet, origin, vet info, or caging/husbandry that was my best guess at your problem.

Solaris16 Jan 11, 2004 04:46 PM

You can't tell if an iguana is healthy by looking at the size of its stomach. Look at their tails. They should be fat, without their hips poking out. Also, do you feed them every day? An iguana needs to be fed EVERY day.

tRY FEEDING IT YOU DO KNOW THAT NO MATTER HOW FAT YOU GET THE BELLY THE BASE OF THE TAIL IS THE FAT RESERVE. pOOR GUY IS STARVING NO FAT RESERVE AND NO MUSCLE TONE WHAT SO EVER.
