What season do you see your males go off feeding for breeding? Recently acquired a 2 y.o. yellow approximately 4.5', nice mass, tame but not in the feeding mood right now. Could he be ready for breeding?
Thanks
John
My female (8') just started eating again in the last few weeks. Before that she fasted for over 6 months. You should get a good feeding response very soon.
>>What season do you see your males go off feeding for breeding?
Last year, my youngest male and female Yellows started flirting, around September. Two other males got into the act and by November, all three males were scratching the newspaper substrate with their spurs constantly, making lots of noise. Until around Thanksgiving, the female played hard to get and the males got frenzied, but all still ate regularly! The males would slap each other with their coils, and climb all over her. Then, she'd get tired of it and slap them and scatter them. She's over 50 pounds, and the boss! They mated constantly through December, individually and in group. The female ovulated the second week in Dec. She got so big for about 4 days that I was concerned she was injured. They all continued eating and mating through Dec. Just before New Year's, she started shed, but continued to eat and mate. After she shed, they all settled down and the female started to gestate. She's so big right now, I feel sorry for her. She continued to eat through the second week in April ( very small meals, 3 to 4 weeks apart ), since then she has tasted and poked food, but won't eat. I handled them every day through the mating, taking them outside to exercise for an hour or so, every few days. Next day, they'd be back at it.
Mating with single male, Anaconda "missionary" position.

With multiple males, the lucky one wraps her to keep the others off her. She's a typical female, she loves to be the center of attention.

She's in shed, but still going for it. They're busy at the other end.

This taken first week of breeding. Took them out to exercise rack, they started chasing the female. Poor Boa almost got squashed.

Gravid female current pic. She starts to come out, then poops out. She'll just hang her head there for hours, like she'd like to get out, but too preggers to do it. I quit lifting her in April, afraid to injure her, or the babies.
