ABSALOUTELY URGENT!!!! HELP REQUIRED IMEDIATELY!!!!

Froggirl Jan 11, 2004 07:06 AM

I have recently purchased an African clawed frog and I am qquite concerned about its health. I have heard you need to use fresh water for its tank but I have been using tap water. My frog is a male and he seems to be functioning perfectly in ever way apart from the fact that he has stopped growing since we have used tap water, when he is fully stretched out from head to toe he is about six inches, is this normal size? And do I need to use fresh water rather than tap water?
Please help.

Hi,

I would say that your male frog is now probably fully grown. Are you treating the tap water with anything before you put it in the tank? If not treat it with a water conditioner such as Tetra Aquasafe or Nova Aqua. You can also use rain or spring water if you like, but it doens't matter unless you treat the tap water that you use.

tap water is fresh water, the problem is that it contains chlorine and chloramine which are not good for our fish or amphibians

as long as u treat the water with something as 'clawedforgs' said above then u will be fine, i have 6 adf's at the moment all living in tap water and doin fine
