My Surinam with the abcess died...Now I have a question.

kottonmouthking Jan 11, 2004 10:17 AM

I posted last weekend about my unique looking Suri with the abcess by his vent. I just found him dead in his cage about 10 minutes ago. He had turned the top half of his body upside down, all twisted up with his head flat on the floor. When I moved him a long string of something pulled away from his mouth. Like mucous. He was also still pretty flexible so it must have just happened a few hours ago. This really sucks but I guess he was probably doomed from the start. I only had him for 5 weeks. And the whole time, he was pretty sick. I didn't realize just how sick though. Anyway, my question is what about my other snakes? Anyone think there's any chance they could be at any risk for catching anything. He never came in contact with any of them but they are all in the same room and same area. Some cages were stacked on top of his. I'd really appreciate any comments. And I'm really disappointed to lose such a nice snake. I'm sure there aren't many like him.

I sorry to hear about your loss. I would take the dead snake to the vet to be checked out and opened up to see waht went wrong. Also now is the time to clean your cages and treat for mites just in case. I had an unexpected death once and I was really worried about the rest of my collection and everything turnd out ok but I was really stressed out. Sorry about your loss
