Cageing question

crazytank84 Jan 11, 2004 11:28 AM

I have a friend that is looking to setup a cage for 2 veileds he wants to use an all acyrilic aquarium that has very little ventilation which meens he can hold very high humidity. I want to say it's a 45 gallon but I am unsure. we checked the humidity and with the fogger he placed in it was at 100% with in 2 minutes

I was wondering if this would be ideal for veileds?

I have never ever kept them and I never really have been a lizard person so any thought on this would be greatly appreciated.

probably not a great setup...the veiled might see his reflection and get stressed...there's no air circulation...the humidity is too high...and a 45 gallon isn't going to give a full grown veiled a whole lot of room...you really need a screen cage..."Apogee" makes several screen enclosures (various sizes) that are inexpensive and are great for new keepers. have your friend do alot of reading before he or she makes this purchase

also you should not keep 2 chameleons together. they are solitary animals, and the male will try to breed with her constantly. this will cause enormous amounts of stress, and will end up leading to one of them dying from either prolonged stress or fighting. they can be housed together by very experienced keepers, but only in very large enclosures, like greenhouses. even then, i wouldn't recommend it with veileds due to their aggressive tendencies.

Hi - Chams are great, but high maintenance, not cheap, and not all that easy to find a sitter if you go away much. Check out these sites. All of these have info on husbandry, nutrition, species, feeders, health, vets and MUCH more:
