Armored Chameleons

choadaboy Jan 11, 2004 01:20 PM

Hello Everyone,
At risk of bludgeoning the obvious I'll say I'm new here. I gave the archives a quick scan and it seems there has been some "lively" debate about the use of d3 supplemntation among other things. I'm not going to touch that one with a ten foot pole. I will say it is nice to see so many people with such an active interest in chameleons and their health. My mission here is to find one or a pair of Armored Chams for sale somewhere. I had a male that I bought from LLLReptile in 2000 or 2001. He died on me eventually and it pretty much destroyed me for quite a while. I think I'm ready to give it another go but I'm having a bit of trouble finding any for sale. If anyone has any advice on where to look as well as maybe tips on care I'd be grateful. I've kept many specimens of many different kinds of herps over the years but only the one chameleon.
Thanks in advance,
Mathew D. Eldridge

if i'm not mistaking, which i may be, unless you find a CB animal, you will never find one. they are on importation ban, and i've never seen one for sale.

Matthew,

Unfortunately there are not many (if any) breeders that are breeding the Armored Pygmy Chameleons (Brookesia Perarmata) and there will not be any more imported. They are now afforded the protection under CITES App I listing. This means they are only allowed export for Zoological purposes and that won't be happening often either. I wish I could help you in your quest but most of the specimens that were imported in that last few years have all perished. Most of them more than likely perished in the hands of inexperienced keepers.
