anyone see the cassified for sweet orange columbian boa

bigdee Jan 11, 2004 02:58 PM

$800 do you think thats worth it. From what I see it is a normal bci. I havent been active in the boa forum but dont tell me normal bci with a little color is selling for that much.

Who knows??? For some people that might be a deal. Or, just what they are looking for.

I have seen some Ronne pastels that were three years old that were worth paying 700-800 dollars for.

SOMETHING IS WORTH WHAT YOU CAN SELL IT FOR. THE ANIMAL ADVERTISED IS VERY NICE AND JOE IS A GREAT GUY. OBVIOUSLY TO HIM THE BOA IS WORTH $800 AND I RESPECT HIS OPINION. HE HAS PUT ALOT OF HIS TIME INTO RAISING IT AS WELL. ABOUT A YEAR AGO I ADVERTISED A VERY NICE 4-5FT. FEMALE COLOMBIAN FOR THE EXACT SAME PRICE OF $800 AND SOMEONE DID THIS EXACT SAME THING. THEY SAID I WAS CRAZY AND POSTED IT HERE ON THE FORUM AND TRIED THEIR BEST TO BASH ME. I LAUGHED IT OFF AS ALWAYS AND LATER THAT SAME WEEK JOHN MANSER CAME HERE IN PERSON AND PURCHASED THE ANIMAL AT MY ASKING PRICE OF $800. HE ALSO PURCHASED TWO MORE BOAS THAT WERE PRICED FAIRLY HIGH. THE PRICES WERE HIGH, BUT THE QUALITY WAS TOO. JOHN CAME TO BUY ONE BOA AND AFTER SEEING MY ANIMALS HE LEFT WITH THREE! THANKS AGAIN JOHN, I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AND YOUR WIFE AGAIN SOON. GOD BLESS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL......

Thanks Bill - hope everything is well with you... Thanks for posting pics of those awesome Peruvians lately!

Bill pretty much spelled it out in his well written post.

I've seen fairly clean animals be posted and sell as 'ultra high colored pastels' for $800-$1200 with no problem.

At no time did I call this animal a Pastel.

This is a high Orange animal i've heldback and been raising for about 3 years now.

I have only posted her 2-3 times for a high price since I really didn't want to get rid of her but did need funds.
Only reason she is still here is because I can't even come close to capturing her true colors, especially with my horrible photography skills..lol

Her color far exceed any light orange i've ever seen on a boa that size.
Her tail is pumpkin orange - far better than any Colombian i've ever seen and better than many true redtails i've seen too!

Her saddles are faded, lite and orange, and her belly is white and orange.

If I had a serious buyer who wasn't interested solely in trying to bash a fellow herper, my gaurantee would be - if you are not more than totally satisfied when you see her in the flesh, return her and i'll pay all shipping.

I would make that same gaurantee to anyone here, at anytime, but unfortunately some people out there would try to take advantage and waste my time. (That is NOT geared to anyone specific in this thread)

Yes John, and others, when I see a price this high on a bci, I think to myself, a normal, somewhat pretty Colombian... for MORE than a true redtail!?!

But as I have discussed time and time again with many of you who truly relish the rare outstanding bci these days, no one understands and values these beasts as much as we do - the ones who put the blood, sweat and tears into raising these things.

Know what? I probably wouldn't pay that if I saw this ad!
But you know what else?
try finding another animal like this out there.

I know a few people working with Sharps that would LOVE to get their hands on this girl.
That was one of my main intentions..

anyway, back to work..
i really wish you guys can see this girls true potential!

worth all of that. I also have a very orange boa that is impossible to capture on film. Actually she is the one I posted earlier, she is gravid. I was lucky and was able to get this animal from my neighbor at a "ridiculously" low price. I bought her last year for $100.00. This is definitely an exception not the norm.

Just a little side note:
I think it is important for us as herpers and hobbyist to take pride in our animals. And our selling price is a direct reflection of that respect and pride we have. In no way should we allow others to degrade this special ideal because they feel that the price is too high. It is also worth mentioning that it helps the "market" by keeping nice specimans out of the hands of those individuals who would not appreciate and respect the animal and give it the attention it deserves. (Im not sure if I have made my point or not, but the short of it: keep up the good work and let onlookers be onlookers and buyers be buyers.
JMHO
Thanks

I know of a few boas I had and sold that were AWESOME, but when taking pics, they would look like the animal you posted..

Now from the pic, noone would really be able to tell exactly how much color these animals have...
can't sell an animal without a pic, right?

so what are we to do - keep them all?! lol

i'm sure some of us wouldn't mind, if we had unlimited space and $..lol..
but then again,
part of the pride of raising animals like this is when you are able to sell them and make another herper/collector exstatic with a smile from ear to ear just like we were at some point. or else what's the point?

thanks for your post - take care - Joe

P.S. I'll tell you, sometimes when I sell a pretty boa, that even I think maybe high priced, I do have a sense of anxiety thinking - what will he think when he sees it in person?
no matter how confident I am
but then when the person receives it and calls gloating and thanking me, that makes it all worthwhile!
Then after 2 days when the animal settles in, they usually call again.. lol
