finally, succes with Repta-Aid - but have some ???

lele Jan 11, 2004 05:39 PM

Well, Luna DOES love the Repta-Aid as Sonia predicted - it just took awhile. Right now I am still giving it runny so that she gets enough water - but it's so lumpy! I don't know what you guys use for a syringe, but mine gets clogged and then all of a sudden I'll squirt her :-/ I have about 6 different syringes, tho' most have similar size openings. I tried smushing it but it won't dissolve. Is there a way around this or do we just deal with it? Any suggestions appreciated!

I must make her a bib! B/t this and the N-Cg she has an entire meal on her chin! LOL!!

Hi Lele...

I use a popsicle stick and stir it. I stir briskly and make sure that I scrape the sides of the little cup frequently.

I also make sure the water is warm, which I'm sure you already do though.

I've never run into a problem with the syringe clogging, I think because I stir and stir. Even if I use the syringe that comes with the repti-aide.

Most of the time I use a 10mL syringe so that I don't have to keep refilling it, but the opening's are pretty standard on all the syringes I have.

I know what you mean about needing a bib for Luna! Zoe makes a mess with his rept-aide too. The stuff dries like concrete if you don't get it all washed off while it's wet....Zoe HATES it when I wipe his face!

Here's a picture of him wearing his dinner. I laughed because someone left a comment on this picture about me being a "sick person". I don't know what exactly they thought I was doing to Zoe, or what they thought was on his face....but they have obviously never had to force feed a chameleon before!

lol
when orion was eating baby food mixture i would spray her right in the face with her mister when she was done. she didn't seem to mind it. actually, she only drinks if i spray her right in the face. i think she likes it..

that's funny! I sort of douse her with water from her big dripper - she doesn't mind and prefers it to a full body bath!!

Then stir till you are tired. Try putting the repta aid in a cup first then add water. I use a small orange juice cup so I can stir better. That little plastic thing in the package is pretty useless.
If she is gravid do not give large amounts. She needs room for eggs lungs and food. Smaller meals are better near egg laying time. They also quit eating a few days before laying.

so I guess stirring is the key! yes, I gave up on that little cup the first try! it is so watered down right now I don't think she is getting all that much as this is her main source of water, too.

thanks!
