Burgandy cribo in field guide

gila7150 Jun 05, 2003 12:11 PM

I was wondering if anyone has seen the cribo photo in "A Field Guide to the Amphibians and Reptiles of the Maya World" by Julian C. Lee. It's just labeled Drymarchon corais but it appears to be a melanurus (the black tail is visible in the pic. What's strange is that the cribo's body color is a deep burgandy color. I know these guys can be pretty variable but I hadn't seen one like this before.
Since this book seems to focus on the Yucatan peninsula, I'm wondering if this coloration is typical of cribos from this area.

Here's what was in the HTML source where your photo was supposed to be:

Is that "bleep" some sort of automatic censorship that removed your domain name from the link? Maybe Kingsnake won't allow you to link to that domain for some reason. Strange...

That's exactly what it was. I didn't realize the site it's hosted at was banned by KS.
I would have hosted it on the KS photo gallery but I'm not sure if that's ok to do since the pic doesn't belong to me.
I'll email the pic to Dean since I have his email address. It may not even be that unusual...just coloration I hadn't seen before. Sorry for the tease.

Chris,

Julian Lee is my Uncle and that Burgandy Cribo was his snake, which is now in my possesion..... I WISH!!!!!!! LOL
I saw that book and the picture was AMAZING. Since then I've been stalking every dealer out there, but they all say they've never seen one like that.
Stunning snake.
