I recently went to petco because my friend was looking for a corn snake. They had snow corns for $50 which was more than my friend wanted to spend. When he expressed that it seemed overprice, a worker approached us and asked how much he was willing ot spend. He said $20 and the worker said "Yea, theres a special holiday sale, so I can do it for $20, the only thing is you can't pay at the register, you have to give me the money and I'll bring it up." The funny part is the worker tried to make it sound legit. He pretended he knew what he was talking about and said that corn snakes were very affectionate animals and when they squeeze you it means they like you. He then told my friend he had to put the snake in his pocket on the way out...at least the money wasn't going towards petco!

Actually its against PetCo policy to pay for outside animals. If a store is giving a non approved source money for animals, its a big no-no. All sources for animals have to be visited and approved by cooperate to become a vendor. All our stores snakes come from Gourmet Rodent.

Hmmm... I wonder if your friend is on Petco's video surveillance putting a snake in his pocket and walking out the door without paying? I think he would be found guilty if Petco wanted to pursue theft charges, even if the employee instigated the theft. Any cops on this forum with some insight?

Though I am no cop, I deffinitely agree that the store can and most likely would, charge your friend with shop lifting if he walked out of the store with a snake in his pocket and no prove he paid for it. The employee was either trying to make some money by selling the store's stock and in essense, ripping the store off, not to mention letting your friend take the fall if he gets caught. I am quite sure this guy at the petstore (did he really work for the petstore or just claimed he did?) would declare he had no ideal what your friend was talking about if your body claimed he did pay the store worker.
If the sale was legit, ask for a receipt and the employee should be happy to give one.

O'ed men who breed snakes.(hint..hair and tats and attitudes).........running up in someones face at their car.....they really love it......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...LOL

Woah. I work for a PetCo, and a DAMN good one. You should have reported him on the spot, and he would of been fired. PetCo is now VERY VERY strict as far as rules and policies go. You're taught in the 2 day training coarse they give to report crap like that immediately, and its taken care of immediately. Theft suspects are fired on the spot. There is however a sale going on on cornsnakes for 39.99, but definatly not 20. Still cheaper then buying one online with shipping.
