Before I went on vacation during the holidays, I placed small cultures of melanogaster in each of my tanks. The media is potato flake-based, with brewer's yeast, sugar and some other vitamins added. All the cultures produced very well while I was gone (about 9 days), but I came home to find Grindal worms (at least that's what I believe them to be: not more than 1/2 inch long, skinny, and pure white) all over the glass walls of every tank that had a culture in it. I don't really mind this, since the frogs seem to love 'em. Although, it makes me wonder... where did the worms come from? I suppose they came from the potato flakes, but I'm not exactly sure about this.
Yesterday, I noticed that one of my pumilio laid a clutch of eggs on a brom leaf and one of the eggs was touching the glass. About an hour after I discovered the clutch, I discovered about a dozen Grindal worms feeding on the newly-laid and viable egg. They made quick-work of it too. Thankfully, it was the only egg that they could reach, since it was the only one touching the glass. It's been a few days, and most of the worms are no longer visible, but it was a pretty strange occurence that I thought I'd like to share.
